Apple asked:
Which one is better and why?
Also, which fabric of a duvet will be most comfortable? Cotton, velvet, etc…?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

A duvet is a type of bedding— a soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both and used on a bed as a blanket. Duvets originated in rural Europe and were made from the down feathers of the Eider duck, known for its usefulness as an insulator. Today they can be found with filling materials such as silk, wool, or artificial fibers (such as polyester batting or other artificial material).
A duvet cover will protect your duvet for many years and you wash them as you would comforters (when needed). I recommend a high thread count cotton as you’ll get many more years use from it - but the velvet sounds dreamy!

Hi!
A duvet is a French word for a down-filled blanket or bed (comforter). The Duvet cover is self-explanatory! They are a great way to change the whole look in your bedroom without having to spend a bundle
The cover fabric depends upon how you live (pets, kids, sloppy friends- lol!, etc.). Velvet will catch lint fur and if you put something down on the bed, it can transfer to your clothes- ew. It also has to be dry-cleaned to keep it nice looking.
My personal experience has been to buy a good-quality fabric that you can wash as needed. (Nothing like a nice fresh-smelling bed to crawl into!)

The duvet is like the comforter, it’s the plush, fluffy, warm part. Some people, silly people, don’t cover the duvet. That’s just wrong because now it’s going to pick up all the dust, spills, odors and have to be washed more. So, we slip it into a cover, like a pillow case on a pillow. This allows a couple of things, one we can buy a plain duvet, usually cheaper, and two this allows us to decorate the room to suit your taste. You can purchase duvets covers in the size of your duvet, I sometimes tend to go a size bigger in everything, because I like it to hang over the edge. In all colors, styles and even get matching pillow shams. If you have your heart set on a color you can’t find easily, you could always buy two flat sheets and sew them together on three sides, slip in the duvet and then using oversize buttons or ties or velcro do up the bottom opening, and the duvet cover or sheets come off for easy washing. The possibilities are endless when it comes to fabric, everything’s out there, for most casual go cotton, for something more formal and really high end the upholstery fabrics will be heavier and lay on the bed more like a comforter set, dress things up with oversize cushions or bolsters…. Don’t forget the plush fabrics are going to be harder to launder and may require dry cleaning, where cotton and cotton poly blends are cheaper and easier to care for. I picked up my latest set from Ikea, and I love them, seems to me a king was less than $50….. have fun decorating your bedroom…

A down duvet is just that, a thick type of bed covering, like a comforter light in weight and baffles filled with down, or sometimes man made material…the duvet cover, is just that, a cover for the duvet. I would not be without one and use no top sheets on my bed, just a bottom sheet and a duvet with a cover. I choose 100% cotton or egyptian cotton for material. You never go back to sheets, blankets and comforters after using a real down duvet (unless you are allergic)
