Who makes the Heavenly Bed duvet insert? What are duvets?

~ Pussycat Doll In Training ~ asked:

I hear duvets are easier to keep the bed neat and make it in the mornings. I need something that is not too heavy and easily washable, too.

Any suggestions where I can get an affordable bed covering that is durable and washable?

Thanks!

well I believe a duvet normally has a cover over it, whereas a comforter is all one piece, and a bedspread is just more of a decorative cover. So a duvet is probably what you want since you can wash the covering of it, try bed, bath, and beyond. That is the extent of my bed covering knowledge.

A duvet and comforter are essentially, the same thing. They are either down or polyester filled and can be laundered. You can also put a duvet cover on either and just wash that regularly.

A bedspread is just a bedcover. It isn’t designed to give much warmth and you need blankets underneath.

Target and Walmart both carry bedding at affordable prrices.

Duvet- usually plain and meant to be used with a cover. Often they are down and need to be dry cleaned so people buy a cotton duvet cover that can be machine washed to protect it.

Comforter- Stuffed blanket, can usually be machine washed. Often come in bed-in-a-bag sets with sheets.

Bedspread- One layer, may or may not be machine washable. Used in warmer climates or as an extra layer with a duvet or comforter.

I don’t think any of them necessarily look neater. A down duvet is very light and a cotton cover can easily be washed. But, they tend to be more expensive than comforters or bedspreads.

Duvets originated in Europe. They are a thick bed covering that would keep you incredibly warm without having to add blankets as they were filled with goose or duck down. Nowadays, you can also get duvets filled with fiber but a true duvet is down filled. It’s easier to make the bed in a quick neat way because all you have to do is tuck in the sheets, give the duvet a big fluff, cover the bed and away you go. A duvet should not be used as is, but needs a duvet cover to protect it and those come in a variety of fabrics.

A comforter is a lighter polyfilled bedcover that gives varying degrees of warmth depending on the filling. It can range from inexpensive cotten covered kids Spiderman comforters to very ornate with piping around the seams. It’s all one piece.

A bedspread does not have a filler. It’s like a blanket but designed to cover the entire bed and usually does not give a lot of warmth. Chenille used to be a popular fabric for bedspreads.
